To be recognized as a National Scenic Byway by the United States Department of Transportation, a road must possess one or more scenic, natural, cultural, historic, archeological and recreational qualities. The Kentucky Wildlands actually has three roads that have been designated National Scenic Byways because they meet those required characteristics and offer so much more, including breathtaking views, fun, adventure, discovery, thrills and unforgettable memories, to name a few. Take a drive on the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway, the Wilderness Road Heritage Highway Byway or the Country Music Highway Byway to experience some of the extraordinary hidden gems and treasures that can only be found in The Kentucky Wildlands.
